At WholesomeCo Cannabis, Pride Month is a time to celebrate the vibrant, diverse, and resilient LGBTQ+ community. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on the deep and meaningful connection between cannabis culture and the LGBTQ+ movement—two communities that have long shared values of advocacy, healing, and the freedom to live authentically. We are proud to support our LGBTQ+ patients and staff.
A Shared Legacy of Advocacy
The path to cannabis legalization in the U.S. is inseparable from LGBTQ+ activism. In the 1980s and ’90s, LGBTQ+ advocates played a key role in pushing for compassionate access to medical cannabis, especially during the HIV/AIDS crisis. Dennis Peron, a gay rights activist and pivotal figure in the movement, helped pass California’s Proposition 215 in 1996—making it the first state to legalize medical cannabis.
For many, cannabis was not just a source of relief, but a form of dignity and care when other systems failed them. That legacy reminds us that cannabis reform has always been about more than policy—it’s about people.
Cannabis as a Tool for Healing
The LGBTQ+ community continues to face unique challenges, including higher rates of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. For many, cannabis is a vital tool in managing mental health, supporting wellness, and creating moments of peace and self-connection.
At WholesomeCo Cannabis, we believe in the power of cannabis to support well-being, and we’re committed to creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels seen, respected, and supported.
Representation and Inclusion Matter
We are proud to support and uplift LGBTQ+ voices within our workplace, industry, and communities. Our commitment to inclusion goes beyond words—we strive to ensure our policies, partnerships, and everyday practices reflect the values of equity and respect that both Pride and cannabis culture stand for.
